How Billing Works

Categorify uses Shopify’s billing system to handle all subscription payments. This provides several benefits:

Secure payment processing - Categorify never stores or handles your payment information. All payment details remain with Shopify.

Familiar payment methods - Use any payment method supported by Shopify, including credit cards, debit cards, and other regional payment options.

Consolidated billing - Your Categorify subscription appears on your regular Shopify bill alongside your other app charges.

Automatic compliance - Shopify handles tax calculations and regulatory requirements based on your location.

Billing Cycle

Your billing cycle begins on the day you subscribe to a plan. This becomes your monthly anchor date for all future renewals.

Example:

  • You subscribe on March 15
  • Your billing cycle runs March 15 - April 14
  • You’re charged on the 15th of each month
  • Monthly credits refresh on the 15th of each month

Important: Credits are calculated based on your billing cycle, not calendar months. If you subscribe mid-month, your credits still refresh on your anchor date, not the first of the month.

Managing Your Subscription

You can view and manage your subscription in two locations within Categorify:

Dashboard - Plan Pane

From the main dashboard, the Plan pane displays:

  • Your current plan name
  • Monthly credit allocation
  • Next renewal date
  • Manage plan and billing button

Click Manage plan and billing to access the customer portal where you can cancel or update payment methods.

Settings Page - Plan Section

Navigate to Settings to see more detailed information:

  • Selected plan tier
  • Total monthly credits
  • Credits used this billing cycle
  • Visual usage indicator
  • Manage plan and billing button

Both locations provide the same management capabilities—use whichever is more convenient.

Canceling Your Subscription

You can cancel your Categorify subscription at any time with no cancellation fees or penalties.

How Cancellation Works

When you cancel your subscription:

Immediate effects:

  • Categorization stops immediately (both automatic and manual)
  • You can no longer categorize products
  • Monthly credits become unavailable
  • Top-up credits become unavailable (but are preserved—see below)

What remains accessible:

  • Dashboard access
  • Categorization history (subject to 45-day retention)
  • Settings page
  • Previous categorization results

Your data is preserved:

  • All configuration settings remain saved
  • Categorization history is retained (45 days)
  • Custom AI instructions are saved
  • Top-up credit balance is stored

Top-up Credits After Cancellation

When you cancel your subscription, any remaining top-up credits become temporarily unavailable but are not lost:

  • Top-up credits remain in your account
  • They cannot be used while your subscription is cancelled
  • If you resubscribe at any point in the future, your top-up credits become available again
  • The credit balance is exactly as you left it

Example:

  • You have 5,000 top-up credits when you cancel
  • You cannot use these credits while cancelled
  • Six months later, you resubscribe to any plan
  • Your 5,000 top-up credits are immediately available again

This ensures you never lose credits you’ve purchased, even if you take a break from using Categorify.

  • Starter: $19/month

  • Scale: $99/month
  • Pro: $199/month

Top-up credits (if purchased) - One-time charges for additional credit packages

Taxes - Applied according to your location

  • Calculated by Shopify based on your store’s address
  • Follows local tax regulations
  • Varies by jurisdiction

Trial to Paid Transition

When your 7-day trial ends, you must subscribe to continue using Categorify.

What Happens at Trial End

If you subscribe before trial expires:

  • No interruption in service
  • Your billing cycle begins immediately
  • Monthly credits are available right away
  • Trial credits are discarded (not added to your monthly allocation)

If your trial expires without subscribing:

  • Categorization stops immediately
  • Dashboard remains accessible
  • History remains viewable
  • Settings remain accessible
  • You must subscribe to resume categorization

Choosing Your First Plan

Consider your trial usage when selecting your first plan:

If you used 25-50 trial credits: Starter plan likely provides sufficient capacity

If you used 50-75 trial credits: Growth plan offers comfortable headroom

If you used 75-100 trial credits: Scale or Pro plan matches high categorization needs

Remember: Start with the plan that best matches your expected usage. You can purchase top-up credits if you need additional capacity.

Failed Payments

If a payment fails, Shopify attempts to process it again according to their retry schedule.

What Happens

  1. Shopify notifies you of the failed payment via email
  2. Automatic retry attempts occur over several days
  3. During retry period, you retain access to Categorify
  4. If all retries fail, your subscription is cancelled automatically

Resolving Failed Payments

To fix a failed payment:

  1. Update your payment method in the customer portal
  2. Shopify automatically retries with the new payment method
  3. Once successful, your subscription continues normally
  4. No data or settings are lost during payment issues

Important: If your subscription is cancelled due to failed payment, you’ll need to manually resubscribe. Your settings and top-up credits are preserved.
